A man has been arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment and firearms offences following an incident in Wigan.

Police were first informed of an incident at around 1.50pm on Saturday (December 19) after attending to a report of a missing woman from Platt Bridge, Wigan.

Officers received further information that the woman may have been involved in a domestic incident, potentially involving a firearm, on Victoria Avenue in Springfield.

Specialist response officers attended the scene and a 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment and firearms offences.

He remains in custody for questioning.

The victim – a woman in her 30s – is being supported by officers and an investigation is ongoing.
